Trash to Treasure

Prior to the bride getting dressed on her wedding day, I get to shoot of all of the "bridal" details - dress, shoes, flowers, rings, perfume, etc. Instead of just taking the obvious shots of these details, I always try to make it interesting. For example, instead of shooting the bride's bouquet just sitting in the vase that the florist dropped it off in, I'll look for a colored piece of furniture or textured wall. It's actually become like a little game that I play - like a strategy game that I have to figure out (I know - I'm a sad, sad person). Most often, I don't have TOO much trouble finding neat places. But sometimes....it's like the ULTIMATE challenge with all the odds stacked against me.

As you saw from the post below, Natasha and Robert had a beautiful wedding in Spirit Square in Uptown Charlotte. And as unique as Spirit Square is, it was also quite difficult to shoot in - particularly for all of the pretty details shots. Usually, if the interior just isn't working for me, I'll head outside as a last resort. But when your last resort is covered in water because it's pouring down rain outside, things get really interesting.

As Natasha was getting her hair and makeup done, I began my search for somewhere to take a couple shots of her flowers. I had searched high and low and came up with nothin'. Until I saw two pieces of white foam board - the wheels then started turning about how I could pull it off to be a decent shot. After I set it up and shot a couple of frames, I pulled the camera off my face and LAUGHED at the sight of this scene.

And here's the final result......not bad considering the above, right? HA!

Trust me, you are not a sad sad person. I do the same thing and I think it's great that you try to step out of the box as much as you can to do whatever t takes to get that shot. Nice!
